Buy original floral art from contemporary artists in the UK. Floral art is often a very colourful art form, although it is not uncommon to find monochromatic depictions either. This category includes plants in general, not just flowers. Floral art may depict one flower, a flower arrangement, a garden or other floral scene. Flowers have inspired artists to paint for centuries. As a result, they are likely the most frequently depicted subject of all time. Some flowers have symbolic meaning. The lotus flower, for example, appears on pottery vases from ancient Egypt, representing the sun, creation and re-birth. Flowers lend themselves well in the creation of motifs and patterns. As a result they frequently appear in medieval tapestries. Plants even inspired a whole art movement in the 19th century. The movement, called Art Nouveau, not only influenced fine arts but decorative arts as well. Toward the end of the Renaissance period, artists began producing paintings that exclusively depicted flowers. These 'still life' paintings are particularly synonymous with artists from the Netherlands and the genre of Dutch Flowers. Flowers were the focus of many impressionist painters in the 19th century. Perhaps the most famous and prolific of these is Claude Monet. He produced over 2000 paintings, most of which feature plant life. Over 200 of these were for his 'Water Lilies' series. Floral art is still enjoyed in equal measure and a popular subject for contemporary artists. It brings the outside in, helps soothe and relax the mind and brightens any room.
