I live by the river TAMAR bordering Devon and Cornwall. Painting and sketching were regular features pretty early on; yet in spite of an enthusiasm for oils and watercolours a career in the Army followed. I found time to get the brushes out; being a 'soldier and painter' worked well with lots of subjects to hand. Deployments to trouble spots provided interesting painting opportunities; however, moving around often made oil painting awkward, so sketching and painting in watercolour became the norm. Travel stimulated interest in light, colour, form and perspective; now retired, time exists to explore ‘what works and what doesn't’ using this exciting medium. I enjoy painting around the South West's towns, cities and estuaries, and also have interest in life drawing, portraiture and animals. Awards won in recent years include The Artist and Leisure Painter Patchings Exhibition (twice) and The Artist Papers Prize at the Armed Forces Art Society exhibition in the Mall Galleries London.
