Lindy Furby is a Scottish collagraph artist/printmaker based in Edinburgh, UK. Lindy's collagraph prints of landscapes, birds and the natural world, are small limited editions and colour variations make each print unique.
I love the mountains, forests, seas, rocks, birds and animals of the land I live in and the lands I travel to. When I ski the mountains or hike along the coast or in forests I paint and draw what I see. When I return home I make my images into plates for printing which I print at the Edinburgh Printmakers workshop using a process called collagraphy, a way of printing which is relatively new and exploratory.
I make these plates by attaching string, tiling cement, different papers and natural materials such as feathers on a card to create interesting textures. The collagraph plate is inked up and printed like an etching. Recently I have been exploring the combination of printing drypoint and collagraphs together, particularly in my new venture of printing birds.
The process is exciting because you never really know what the result will be. There is a real magic and every result is original and a surprise. I produce limited editions of each print; I only print each plate at the most 10 times, however as a result of the way I place ink on the plates (inking up a la poupee) each print is unique.
My prints all fit into one of 5 sizes of IKEA frame. I sell the smaller sizes mounted so that a buyer can simply slot the mounted print into the frame. The 2 larger sizes fit the mounts supplied with the frames. For more details please view my website or contact me via the contact form below.
